Bryan & Amber | Anniversary | Germantown | Nashville Wedding Photographer

The more I discover about Nashville, the more I just wanna give it a big ole bear hug.

I’ll admit it. I was a little nervous about making the big move by my lonesome last June. I am and always will be a small town girl at heart, and thinking about everything big city made me a little shaky. “A little” being the understatement of all understatements. I remember sitting with my mom last summer in our backyard on a swing in front of our firepit. We were having a little bonding time and getting all our details in order about the move, which was quickly approaching- just a few days away at the time. I got a little teary and told her I wasn’t sure if I wanted to move anymore. She smiled, wrapped her arm around me, and gave me the “you can do it” motherly talk I had grown so accustomed to. I don’t know why moving made me so nervous. It just did.

Fast forward 9 months,  and I have kind of fallen in love with this city that had me shakin’ in my boots at first. I just recently got to feast my photo eyes on Germantown while photographing Bryan & Amber’s anniversary session. It’s pretty sweet– a neighborhood of revamped historical houses and streets of homes painted bright pastels that could have leaped off the pavement and kissed my camera. Although we didn’t shoot around these spots, we photographed their session in an equally awesome place. I was diggin’ the industrial backdrop, and did you say rooftop??!?! Ugh. You know how I die over a pretty skyline. And a Nashville one at that?  Heart melting.

To make it come even more full circle, Amber is a small town soul sister. Hailing from Monterey, we’re hometown neighbors. It made me pleased as punch to celebrate her recent move to the big city with a shoot for her and her hubs.

Welcome to Nashville, Bryan & Amber. Many more coffee dates to come, you can be sure of it. ;)

Warren & Meredith | Engagement | Chattanooga | Tennessee Wedding Photographer

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Oh me oh my, how I do love any day that’s marked with a big whole red heart and lots of sweet stuff for my taste buds. What’s that you say?? Russell Stover’s? Salivating already. Who’s got the big whole red box with the 42 flavors of truffles? Pass it over. When it comes to chocolate, I don’t play.

So in early celebration of this lovey-dovey holiday that awaits us tomorrow, I thought why not share an engagement sessio?! It’s kinda the best way ever to give a big-hearted “hoo-rah” to cupid himself. Yes, young couples in love. *sigh* I am all about that. And chocolate. Let’s not forget the chocolate.

I met Meredith and Warren in Chattanooga (one of my favorite places to shoot! soooo pretty.), I was tickled pink at the spot they choose: an artsy district sprinkled with museums, statues, and adorable quaint coffee shops.  I was so in love with their engagement spot, and shooting this couple in love, so close to a holiday about love…Whoa. Are you feeling it? The love, fo sho. I was diggin’ it.

We had a blast on our photo walk, and we even grabbed some shots with their cute pup at the end. As if I needed another reason to want a dog… (Thanks Meredith! I think I might just go on a spontaneous trip myself and get one. Great minds think alike! haha)

Natives of Nashville, it was cool to get to photograph them in their Chattanooga home and to rock out some photo ops in the city where they met. Gotta love a little college meet-n-marry. I dug their style, and their stories they had to tell. I simply cannot wait for their September wedding to arrive. It’s gonna be a blasty-blast and this ole girl is checkin’ off her calendar.

Until then…

An engagement post to celebrate an early VDay. Woot woot for a couple in love! Insert heart emoticon here. ; )

A Southern Gypsy Dreamland | Editorial | Paul Mitchell Knoxville | Altar’d State | Nashville Editorial Photographer

Such a super awesome holiday today. Fat Tuesday and everything Mardi Gras is upon us. I think it’s my 3 year stint waiting tables in a Cajun cuisine heaven that’s the culprit for my Louisiana affinity on a day like this. Gambino’s french bread? Yes, please.

Throw in some beads of wild purples and greens, and I’m like all about some festive stuff. I wish I could teleport down south. Stat. Let’s get moving, I’ve got some masks that need to be rocked out like asap. But alas, no teleportation possible as of yet. The second best option? Pictures, of course. Any day that needs to be celebrated deserves a little bloglovin’.

Today’s images are a little wild, wacky, and out of my norm, but that’s the best part. I love trying new things and testing the waters of all kinds of photo ops. Shooting primarily weddings (most noteably one of the many loves of my life), I work with couples on the regular. However, I decided to take it back to my roots on this one. Shooting one-on-one with girls is exactly how I started this whole photo journey- teaching myself which way was up on my D40 and such.  As much of a creative exploration as this most recent shoot was, it still had that good ole feeling to it- like going home for the holidays or rockin’ out to a classic Fleetwood Mac tune on a countryside drive (add that to my to-do list this spring!).

It just kinda felt like home, even though I’d been far removed from it in the years leading up to now. Long story short, I was stoked. No wait… not stoked. Let’s call the kettle black: I was just plain freakin’ out, ok folks? No pretty way to say it. I was pumped beyond belief.

But maybe it was the photo ingredients that had me basically losin’ my mind over this sesh.

You see, my lovely friends at Paul Mitchell Knoxville said they would join me on this editorial voyage. Then, as if my heart could bear anymore good stuff, Altar’d State said they would allow us to use their clothes. The whole creative collaboration couldn’t have been possible without my right-hand woman, Autumn Curtis, and my stylist extraordinaire, Jessica Killmon. With their powers combined, we were planning machines.

I could have fainted, but I was just way too busy thinking of the possibilities that awaited.  It was going to rock.

And in truth, it really did make me feel like I was back at Day 1, shooting friends the way I had in the past. It’s so wonderful to branch out and get that home-y feeling at the same time. What a mix. Such a perfect combination for a sweet,  southern gypsy dreamland.

HAPPY FAT TUESDAY Y’ALL! ; )
